SDR - Software Defined Radio

Array provides unique, scalable, and evolutionary Software Defined Radio (SDR) solutions to address the growing demand for software defined technologies.

Regenerative Satellite Systems will be the next generation of satellites to address the multimedia needs of the future. These satellites will employ high frequency bands, multiple beams, and complex on-board switching and processing. As a result, satellite payloads will be much more complex. A practical and cost-effective solution will require an architecture and hardware that can accomodate multiple protocols and services existing at the same time as well as the inevitable changes to existing standards and services without a need to develop new systems. This will help extend the satellite lifetime and its use in a variety of applications and services.

SDR provides the concept to achieve this objective. The basic idea of SDR is to move the analog to digital interface as close as possible to the antenna and perform the subsequent signal processing on the digital side in software. Such a design allows a complete adaptability across different modulation formats, channel equalization, coding, data frame formats, bit rates, etc. SDR provides the framework to implement a reconfigurable demodulator.

Array's experience in SDR includes developing a platform that forms the core of a Software Defined Radio Regenerative Communications Satellite System (SDRRCS) for ESA.
